As a result of the Pet Travel Scheme, more and more pet owners are taking their pets overseas with them when they travel. But not everyone realises how costly it can be if things don't go quite as planned.
The AVID Pet Insurance policy has been designed to be flexible, so that you only pay for the additional parts you require. One of the options within the policy is Overseas Travel Cover which adds additional cover when travelling abroad with your pet under the Pet Travel Scheme.
The Overseas Travel Cover extends the vet fees, additional benefits and the liability option if selected, as well as providing the following extra travel related benefits:
- Loss of Health Certificate - up to £250 per trip
- Emergency Expenses - up to £500 per trip
- Quarantine Costs - up to £2,000 per trip
- Repeat tick and worming treatment - up to £250 per trip
Another additional benefit which you can add to your policy is Holiday Cancellation.** This extra covers Holiday Cancellation Costs up to £3,000 over the insurance period, which includes travel and accommodation expenses that you cannot recover if you, or anyone normally living with you, have to cancel or cut your holiday short because your pet:
- Has gone missing while you are away; or
- Is injured or shows the first clinical signs of any illness while you are away or up to 14 days before you leave and needs immediate life saving surgery.
Under emergency expenses, you are also covered for up to £500 of costs associated with failure of your MicroChip. Failure could result, for instance, from damage, movement or the scanner not being capable of reading the MicroChip, at which time you may incur costs such as additional accommodation costs, transportation costs or the rental and shipping out of a suitable scanner.
